| Objective of the Mission: |
| To assess the processes and mechanisms put in place by Mauritius to undertake its self-assessment and subsequaently draft its Programme of Action. The support mission was also to conclude negotiations and sign the MoU on the Technical Assessment and the Country Review Visit. |

| Key Activities undertaken: |
| a) A session with the National Economic and Social Council, APR focal point for Mauritius, to review the draft programme for the Support Mission and an update of the national level process in Mauritius
b) Courtesy calls on various dignitaries in Mauritius including the Vice President, several Ministers and the leader of the opposition party. At these meetings, Mr. Medelci outlined the philosophy, objective and modalities of the APRM, reiterating that it was for peer learning and sharing of experiences. The VICE President and Prime Minister reiterated the commitment of Mauritius to regional integration in Africa.
c) A national stakeholders workshop that included, heads of ministries and departments, private sector, trade unions, academia, political parties and civil society organizations was held to educate participating stakeholders on the APR process including the nature and mechanisms involved in undertaking the self assessment and developing the Programme of Action based on this assessment. Also members of the team made presentations to illustrate the nature of the questions under the four themes of the APRM and the indicators that can be used for evaluation. |
| Key Outcomes of the mission: |
| a) The MoU for the Technical Assessment Mission and Country Review Visit was signed between Mr. Mourad Medelci, on behalf of the APR Forum and Mr. Jaya Krishna Cuttaree, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Regional Cooperation on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Mauritius.
b) It was emphasized that this team remain intact for further work regarding Mauritius APR exercise (See Stage 1 activity 2; see page 7 of Guidelines for Countries to Prepare...) |

| ECA Contribution to the Mission: |
| a) Presentations on good political governance, economic governance and management and socio-economic development
b) ECA provided the APR Secretariat with literature on economic and social governance of Mauritius, including the Mauritius Chapter in the Economic Report on Africa 2003, and data update up to 2004 on economic and social sector indicators. |
